I have learned that it is important to have both a pubic persona and a private persona.  There are characteristics that exist in both personas, but in my private persona, I share things with others that I wouldn’t otherwise.  By others, I mean those who are family and close friends that I know I can trust.  Let’s face it, this world is filled with many wonderful people.  At the same time, it is full of liars and hypocrites, which is why I am doing separate Facebook accounts.

Public Persona

My public persona will promote the alternative media experience that I am trying to create, foster, and grow.

Private Persona

This will contain private details of my personal life that I would not otherwise share with the public.

I used to be all for being open and public.  However, due to recent events, I have re-evaluated my position on the subject matter.  Therefore, I am keeping personal stuff separated from business stuff.  Thanks for your understanding.

What can I say?  I just can’t help myself.  Ever since getting my new car, I’ve been wanting to travel a little more often.  I’ll need to have the oil changed again.  After all, I’ve already travelled 3,000 miles.  Yeah, I know!  I never thought I’d be doing that much travelling on multi-lane highways, but I am enjoying it thus far.  I’m also enjoying my Broadband2Go from Virgin Mobile.  It’s not T1 by any stretch of the imagination, but it does get the job done.  This will come in handy when I go to a bunch of conventions next year.  My dream is to do a few panels and even be on a showroom floor promoting what I do.  :)

Yeah, I've been putting it off for a while, but I need to get some laundry done, and hopefully I can clean up the place a little bit.

Time to hash things out with the license bureau. I have a vehicle I want to sell today, and hopefully, an error can be corrected. Otherwise, I won't be able to complete the transaction.

I work in retail. The end of this coming September will mark my four year anniversary at the same company. I have worked an entire year full time overnight. Of course, it's not easy balancing that with sleep and school. I am so close to graduating that I can feel it. As soon as I'm done with college, a burden will be lifted from my shoulders. With that being said, why would I accept nigth shift in the first place?

  • I needed guarnateed hours, especially when January hits (this is when the sales season is generally done, and slow times are here.
  • The pay increase was also an incentive.
  • Going to night shift can also be an opportunity for advancement.

Now knowing what I know about business and thinking like a wealthy person would, why would I want to advance up the corporate ladder so to speak? The company I work for has the habit of wanting to do more with less. In other words, constant growth of some sort is expected, and if a person does the same thing all the time for long enough, supervisers eventually find ways to let them go. Being in the position to move upward, even if it's one little step, will at least help me in terms of having money coming in while I try to get my publication off the ground.

In the meantime, I will continue to suffer from the syndrome known as not having enough rest, even if I did sleep for eight hours. Perhaps I'm not truly a night worker, because I started noticing how I function a bit better when I sleep at night and stay awake during the day. It can also be very difficult to stay attention during class, but then again, I may simply be better off just reading the textbooks and focusing a little bit less on the lecture.

So while schooling can be affected, working night shift can at least guarantee hours for the time being. Now if only I can motivate myself to finish the next issue of that magazine....

I'm updating this from my main desktop at home. It is currently running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, and is an LTS release. That means I have a few years of stability (in theory anyway) before upgrading. I have recently started blogging on LiveJournal again, because I figured I needed another place to just be myself. Of course I have the *NIXEDBLOG 3.0, but that's for the media-related stuff that I do. I am using Drivel at the moment to write this entry, and it could use some improvement.

For starters, why isn't this client WYSIWYG? There are plenty of those types of clients for Windows and OS X users, and no, I don't want to use ScribeFire. Why should I have to open a web browser just to blog? At the very least, have a toolbar for basic formatting, even if it only inserts html tags. It would be a step in the right direction. Not everyone wants to insert coding when they're writing. They just want to write. So, yeah. Start with a basic formatting toolbar and go from there. Heck, BloGTK has that feature. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it working with LiveJournal, so oh well. I guess I'll have to make do with Drivel for now. Ah well.

It’s been a while since I last posted to this blog.  I began blogging with LiveJournal.  I shall use this for my personal day to day blogging, though I may not do that every day.  You see, there are times I need to just talk, and LJ is perfect for that.  I may talk about the latest movie I saw, my days in class (this fall), or I may simply vent.

A-Kon 21

Overall, I had a good time.  I enjoyed looking at the various costumes that people were wearing.  I was also at a panel about becoming a professional video game player.  I even got some t-shirts to add to my wardrobe.  The trip up was even enjoyable, even though there were some quirks.

To say the least though, I was disappointed with a couple of people that I thought were friends.  The couple in question seemed to be pleasant enough, and the lady was even considerate towards me at times.  We were even able to agree on a one night arrangement at a Holiday Inn, including financial arrangements.  I also handed over $30 for gas.

The problem started on the first night in the Sheraton Hotel in Dallas, Texas.  I was getting tired, and so I laid down on one of the beds.  With a total of five of us and only two beds, there wasn’t enough for all of us.  I would have moved to the chair if asked.  They only had to wake me up, and I would have gladly moved.

Instead, without the authorization of my sister, one of them decided to call the front desk for a roll away bed.  They then left for a while longer, which made no sense.  Oh, and the door was slammed.  One more important piece of information: my sister was the one who booked the reservation six months in advance.  It would have been cool to have Thursday through Sunday, but Spring did what fit her work schedule.

What really caused things to come to blows was when a cute little note was left on the bed that was claimed.  It said that the bed was being claimed due to the fact that there was a 15 hour drive ahead of them.  I understand.  I really do.  However, the way the message was conveyed was far from mature.

Phil, I’m not mad at you.  I am simply disappointed.  You had my number the whole time.  When I sent you a message saying that all you had to do was ask me to move, I meant it.  Instead, you ignored it.  You also ran into me during the day.  You could have pulled me aside and talked to me.  You could have also asked about splitting the parking fee.  You did not.  Instead, a note was left on the bed.  Seeing as how you decided to call for a roll away bed without authorization of my sister (when you give the room number, whoever has their credit card on that room is the one who gets billed), I am not giving anything else to either you or Sara.  It’s only fair after all.  You want $25 from me, yet a rollaway bed was ordered without asking.  I think that’s a fair trade.

Not to worry Phil.  That’s the last time I make plans with you in mind at all.

I'm giving KLuJe a shot. The main issue I am having at the moment is the fact that most LJ clients do not have WSYWIG. I do not wish to insert HTML coding everytime I want to update my LJ. That is silly. Hopefully, there will be a WSYWIG editor out there soon.

Do you hate pennies?  I know there's plenty out there who probably do.  I mean, you can't put them in vending machines for soda for starters.  They get bulky in the pocket.  They're worth one measly cent (face value, but... still...).  I mean, it can't mean much, right?  Well, now's your chance to get rid of 'em!

Every day starting today, I'll bring a plastic cup with me to class.  For people who hate pennies, they have a place to throw them away.  Woo hoo!  "What?  Where are those pennies going?" one might ask.  Well, fear not.  They'll be put towards a good cause, besides melting them down and reselling the metal for higher profit.  (U.S. Mint won't take kindly to that one, so..... don't try it please.......  they'll likely retaliate against you if you do).

There's this site right here.  They do lots of things, such as install Linux-based operating systems onto other peoples' computers for a nominal fee (with support services included), promote Free and Open Source Software, and most importantly, they put together computers for the kids of Austin, Texas.  Most of the kids there have to do assignments on a computer, and those who don't have a computer have to get alternative lessons/assignments.  Talk about embarrassment.  I mean, geeze!  So I'll begin today, and on November 6, I'll deposit all the pennies into my account, and donate them to the Lobby4Linux guys.

Other than that, this week is full of tests, reading, reading, more reading, writing, and oh so much more!  Yay!

Check these guys out.  They're awesome.  They fix up old computers, and donate them to the needy.  How cool is that?  They've also been featured on CNN.  How awesome is that?  So.... go on over and check 'em out, and if you can, maybe drop a buck or two their way....
